Local 3261 WOS Goes the Extra Step

United Steelworkers (USW) Local 3261 in Logansport, Ind., donates to many organizations but our Women of Steel (WOS) Committee takes extra steps to help others.

They collect and haul metal bands that our steel is tied up with to a scrap yard as a fund raiser. They volunteer to clean our Local 3261 Union Hall. They hold yard sales in the summer and donate their time and money to helping the less fortunate.

Our WOS committee adopted two families in need. One two-parent family cares for seven children. The other family is a single mother and three children. WOS helps these families with food and other expenses, including healthcare, when needed.

On Dec. 17, the WOS committee held a Christmas Party for the Morningstar Girls, an organization featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show.  Morningstar Girls are homeless girls that require extra love, guidance, education, and support. Donations include home-made foods, decorations, a Christmas tree, stocking stuffers, gifts and things that girls, (some may be mothers) and their children need, including plenty of hugs and kisses.
