The first jointly-conducted coat drive involving U.S. Steel and USW Unions at Granite City Works, Locals 1899, 50 and 68, was a success as 593 coats and over $200 was collected and donated to the Granite City Salvation Army.
This combined effort held in October, replaced individual collections conducted separately by the union and company.
The Granite City Salvation Army will distribute the coats to Madison County residents in need and thank all those who donated coats and contributed in making the coat drive a great success.
Below is the “thank you” ad that appeared in the award-winning local union newsletter, the Mettle Post.
