Arkema Workers Vote to Join USW

Production employees at Arkema, Inc.’s Plexiglas sheet plant in Kensington, Conn., have voted to join the United Steelworkers union.

The vote was taken on Sept. 30. Roland Samson, organizing coordinator for USW District 4, said he expects the National Labor Relations Board to officially certify the election within about a week.

The union expects to soon begin negotiations for a first contract that would cover approximately 40 employees at the Kensington facility, Samson said.

Akrema is based in Philadelphia. The company also operates union-represented facilities in Geneseo, N.Y., Bristol, Pa. Louisville, Ky., and Houston, Texas.
