WHAT IS THE ALCOA-USW PARTNERSHIP?
For many years, Alcoa and the USW have had a Cooperative Partnership Agreement that states:
"The Company and the Union recognize the value of and commit to work together through a joint decision making process to develop a labor-management partnership which serves the interests of employees, consumers and stockholders and promotes employment security, employee involvement in the identification and solution of business problems, customer satisfaction, open communications, mutual trust and understanding."
Together, Alcoa and its Union members will continue to work to build an even better Alcoa with affordable health insurance, a secure retirement, a safer workplace, fair wages, and better job security.
WHAT IS THE ALCOA-USW ORGANIZING AGREEMENT?
Alcoa and the USW have entered into an agreement covering organizing campaigns at certain unorganized Alcoa facilities. This agreement allows those workers to join the Union by either having 65% of the eligible workers sign Union cards or an election to be held within 7 days if a majority of the eligible workers sign Union cards. At facilities outside of this agreement, the National Labor Relations Board normally conducts an election about six weeks after a Union petition is filed.
