East Tennessee USW Locals Honor Workers' Memorial Day

Members in the Johnson City / East Tennessee area held a service to honor Workers' Memorial Day.  The service began with a candle light vigil stressing the importance of why we should always remember the union members in Tennessee who gave the ultimate sacrifice and were killed on the job.  The service remembered 192 Tennesseans that have been killed on their jobs while working to provide for their families.

Reverend Roy Wilson, a member of USW Local Union 7339 delivered to the assembled a message why we should never forget our fallen brothers and sisters. We always be vigilant to make our workplaces safer for our surviving members.  Brother Tim Barnett to rang the Steelworkers bell 21 times in the memory of the 192.

Staff Representative Boomer Lanham closed the service with the story of his cousin who was killed on his job and how much pain the families suffer when something like this happens. There was a discussion on why safety should be an important topic with the union and company everyday.
