The District 9 Women of Steel recently held a meeting in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at Local 351 Union Hall. Attendees were from Locals in the surrounding areas of Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia. During the meeting Debbie Cook, District 9 Women of Steel Coordinator, prepared the attendees for issues that may arise in their Local Unions relative to FMLA.

“Our WOS program here in District 9 is really working hard to tackle the issues that affect our members each and everyday” Debbie said.  “The women that attended our Tuscaloosa meeting came prepared to learn, work and apply the information provided. We have a strong activist program our members in which our members really take pride.”  During the meeting there was also discussion and a film on sweatshop conditions which affect workers.

“Whether it is the Toxic Toys campaign, supporting our service women and men, implementing the Building Power program or any other task the WOS committee are involved in,” USW District 9 Director Stan Johnson said, “our WOS committee is committed to helping our members, their families and their communities.  We are really proud of their work.”
