 On Tuesday March 25, 2008, The District 13 USW Women Of Steel went to “The Bridge Over Troubled Waters” to test toys for lead.  “The Bridge Over Troubled Waters” is a safe haven for battered women and children. Toys, as well as other items, are donated to the facility daily.  The District 13 USW Women Of Steel chose to help this non-profit organization for obvious reasons. 

The Women sheltered in “The Bridge Over Troubled Waters” are truly Women of Steel.  The Shelter toys were tested first followed by the nursery toys at a different location. There were over one hundred toys tested and only two were found to contain lead. The staff were taught how to use the lead kits. They were very grateful to the USW Women Of Steel for testing toys and providing additional lead test kits for future donations. District 13 USW Women Of Steel and “The Bridge Over Troubled Waters” staff will be working together again in the near future.
