There’s a new flag flying over Texas City Chemicals

The United Steelworkers  flag now flies over the Texas City Chemicals (TCC) site, signifying that the Union and BP are working together toward a common purpose.

Union members and company officials gathered at the flagpoles in front of the TCC administration building for the flag raising on Thursday, March 13. Larry Burchfield, Vice President, Local Union 13-1, led the ceremony. He discussed the 10-point plan and the importance of the USW flag waving over the facility.

TCC and USW signed a ratified memorandum of agreement in August 2007, covering workplace issues contained in the 10-point plan, signed by Leo Gerard, International President USW and Bob Malone, President, BP North America, in January 2007.  TCC USW Vice Chairman, George Perry, also attended.

TCC Works General Manager Susan Dio, Human Resources Manager Jim Steinkamp and members of the TCC Leadership Team and engineering staff were on hand, for the ceremony.

Mark Sumrall, USW Local 13-1 Unit Chairman, said, “It is fitting that the USW flag flies at Texas City Chemicals to show that we are partnering with each other in alignment with our 10-point plan. We are traveling our path to destiny together and we are up for the challenge.”  In concluding the event, Sumrall said, “It’s ‘all’ good at Texas City Chemicals.”
