The convention marked the 50 anniversary of the merger between the American federation of Labor (AFL) and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) in Oklahoma.
Organized labor existed in Oklahoma even before statehood. The original AFL charter was signed by Samuel Gompers on May 21, 1900 which is a full seven years before Oklahoma became a state.
Kenny Parrick was elected to the executive board of the OK AFL-CIO at the convention.
