Policy on Harassment

Harassment based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, citizenship or sexual orientation, or toward any protected group, is a violation of Union policy, the non-discrimination provision of the collective bargaining agreement and the law. Sexual harassment, in particular, is defined in the Union’s Statement of Policy on Sexual Harassment. Sexual harassment is illegal discrimination in both the United States and Canada. Harassment awareness education and training for local unions is encouraged to help maintain a harassment free working environment for our members. Mutual respect must be the basis on which every individual interacts with other employees and members.

Retaliation

It is a violation of Union policy to retaliate against an individual who files a complaint of discrimination, is witness to a discriminatory act or who testifies on behalf of a person filing a complaint of discrimination. This policy bars the use of our internal disciplinary procedure to shield sexual and discriminatory misconduct by our own members. Such retaliation also violates United States and Canadian law.
