Since the steel crisis began nearly five years ago, our union has fought for three simple objectives:
- Maintain the jobs and living standards of our active members.
- Protect the pensions and health care benefits of our retirees.
- Preserve our nation’s ability to make steel.
The union’s Basic Steel Industry Conference (BSIC) involves the presidents of every basic steel local union in the country and they present the industry with plans that would will accomplish the Union’s goals, and make American steel far more competitive in the global market.
The industry’s failure to meet the challenge of consolidation is one more glaring example of management’s total lack of vision and leadership.
