Putting the `Steel' in Steelworker

About 110 Chicago-area workers have joined the USW.

Allied/Tyco, located in Harvey, Ill., is expanding its current operation and will begin producing structural steel, including large overhead beams.

Currently, there are three units of Steelworkers within Allied/Tyco. They are the Allied-Tube, Allied-Tube (Blue Island) and the Specialty Metals division.

District 7 Director Jim Robinson was instrumental in helping bargain the agreement, as were Assistant Director Fred Redmond, and business agent Joe Fabbre.

The USW is the largest industrial union in North America and represents more than 850,000 workers.
