Newspaper distribution employees who work at the Beaver County (Pa.) Times have proven their resolve by dismissing a heavy anti-union campaign and voting more than two-to-one in favor of the United Steelworkers.
Workers were subjected to a series of campaigns by the newspaper’s management team that included captive-audience meetings up to three times a week. Newspaper brass also used letters, flyers, postings and one-on-one meetings in an attempt to deter their employees from exercising their rights to join a union.
The members of the new unit are responsible for loading and driving the trucks that distribute newspapers to various retail outlets and delivery personnel.
The employees become members of USW District 10, where John DeFazio is Director. The USW represents more than 1.2 million active and retired members in North America.
