Steelworkers Associate Members and retirees pledge to protect Social Security

Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch and State Rep. Tom Rukavina spoke before a lively audience of over 200 Steelworker retirees and associate members on April 15, 2005 in the northern part of the state.  The crowd enthusiastically vowed to fight back against the Bush agenda that threatens working people across the country.  The speakers called on the individuals to take action against Bush’s plan to privatize Social Security that would greatly reduce benefits and add trillions to the national debt.

"We need to mobilize to stop the president's privatization plan that will not only gamble with guaranteed benefits for the elderly, but also the disabled, survivors and working families across the specturm," said Steelworkers Jerry Fallos. "It would take money away from the most vulnerable and put it into Wall Street investors pockets."

The speakers also addressed the rising cost of healthcare and prescription drugs, and how we all must take responsibility  for helping elect politicians that will stand up against corporate special interests.
