Over the past few years the face of the USW is rapidly changing. Not only are we seeing more women in the manufacturing world, but also we are organizing women in record numbers in all walks of life.
Working women need to become more involved with:
- Contract Negotiations
- Health and Safety
- Grievance Handling
- Rapid Response
- Organizing
Director Thompson and all the Staff in District 8 are dedicated to increasing women’s activism in our union.
Our Women of Steel program is a wonderful tool to begin getting our female members involved. Every summer at our USW District 8 Summer Institute approximately 18 to 20 women attend our Women of Steel Course.
I have witnessed great success stories with the graduates of this course. Many have gone on to become Local Union officers, Unit Chair Persons, Committee Chairs, and some have ran and been elected to political offices. All have gone away with a better understanding of our Union and how important it is to become more active.
