2009 Civil Rights Conference for District 1

To: District 1 Presidents, Recording Secretaries and Unit Chairpersons

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

District 1 will present a Civil Rights Conference on April 21, 22 & 23, 2009, at The Lodge at Sawmill Creek Resort, Huron, Ohio.  Issues regarding equal opportunity, a legal update, harassment, the duties of our Civil Rights Committee and other issues relevant to civil rights will be discussed.

Registration will be on Monday, April 20 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 8:00 a.m. The conference will convene each day at 9:00 a.m. and should conclude by 5:00 p.m. each day.  A banquet and program will be held Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. after which, the Conference will conclude.   Lunch will be served on Tuesday.

A block of rooms has been reserved at The Lodge at Sawmill Creek at a cost of $95.00 per night per room plus 11 1/2% tax.  Room cancellations must be made prior to 72 hours of arrival date, or you will be charged the room rate.  For room reservations you must call The Lodge at 800-SAWMILL (800-729-6455) or 419-433-3800.  Be sure to identify yourself as a Steelworker attending the Civil Rights Conference in order to receive this rate.  Make your reservations as soon as possible to assure you have an accommodation.  If you have difficulty walking, ask for a room close to the meeting room area.

There is a registration fee of $130 per delegate to cover the cost of the lunch and banquet.  Please complete the attached registration form and return it with your registration fee no later than April 13 in order to assure proper booking of facilities and availability of materials.  Make checks payable to:  District 1 Education Fund and mail along with your registration form to:  United Steelworkers Civil Rights Conference, 4069 Bradley Circle NW, Canton, OH  44718.  All lost time and associated expenses must be borne by the Local Union.
