How to Find Your Pension

First, you must determine whether you participated in (1) an employer-sponsored pension plan or (2) a multi-employer pension plan, such as the Steelworkers Pension Trust (SPT), National Integrated Group Pension Plan (NIGPP), or PACE Industry Union Management Pension Fund (PIUMPF).  To learn more about your plan, please refer to the pension plan documents distributed to you by your plan administrator.

Employer-Sponsored Pension Plans:

If your pension was employer-sponsored, then you must contact your employer to apply for your pension.  Your employer, as the plan sponsor, is responsible for the terms and administration of your pension plan, and is required by law to respond to inquiries from plan participants.  Please call your employer’s offices and ask to speak with someone in their pension department; they should be able to help you to apply for your pension, or to answer your questions about an existing pension.

If you do not know how to contact your employer, or if your employer is no longer in business, then please contact the Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration at 1-866-444-3272, or through the internet at www.dol.gov/ebsa.  The EBSA will assist you in finding your pension plan and seeking your benefits.

If your pension plan was terminated due to lack of funding by your employer, then please contact the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation at 1-800-400-7242, or through the internet at www.pbgc.gov.  The PBGC is a Federal corporation that insures many pension plans and may be able to assist you in seeking your benefits.

Multi-Employer Pension Plans:

If you participated in a multi-employer plan (instead of an employer-sponsored plan), then please contact the appropriate plan office to apply for your pension:

If you participated in the Steelworkers Pension Trust (SPT), then please contact the SPT office at 1-800-848-1953 to apply for your pension.  Unlike employer-sponsored pension plans, the SPT is administered by a joint employer-union Board of Trustees.

If you participated in the National Integrated Group Pension Plan (NIGPP), then please contact the NIGPP office at 1-800-321-2393 to apply for your pension.

If you are a former PACE member, then you may have participated in the PACE Industry Union Management Pension Fund (PIUMPF).  Please contact the PIUMPF office at 1-800-474-8673 for more information.
