More than fifty leaders and activists from Western Washington progressive organizations gathered on March 5 to discuss current efforts and to identify ways they can be a driving force for change in their community. Organized by the Steelworkers Tacoma/Pierce County Associate Member Chapter, the forum brought together peace groups, retired and working union members, Democratic and third party activists, GLBT groups, professors, and many others.
"As a newcomer to the Steelworkers Associate Member Program, I was very impressed by how quickly we reached the goal of bringing these groups together," said Victoria Lynn Shields of Tacoma, Washington. "We hope this will provide a much-needed spring-board for progressive action in Tacoma and Pierce County."
The Progressive Roundtable used an egalitarian system where each participant had an equal amount of time to present their issues and project their vision.
The next Progressive Roundtable meeting will be held on Friday, March 25th, at 7am, at Shakbrah Java: 2618 - 6TH Ave, Tacoma.
