Minnesota Chapter Launches Member Education Series

The Steelworkers Twin Cities associate member chapter met on March 7 for it's monthly membership meeting. Members heard reports from the Minnesota Blue Green Alliance Citizen Lobby Day held on February 17. Eleven of the members present had participated and for many people this was their first time lobbying an elected official.

The education committee announced two upcoming events as part of their member education series. On March 15th, at 7pm at the Steelworkers District 11 office (click here for directions) Peter Rachleff, associate member and history professor at Macalester College, will lead a workshop on labor history titled, "The Tradition & Mystiquen Labor Movement: Learn from the Past, Win Today." The goal is to critically look at American Labor history, learning from mistakes and successes to rebuild the labor movement in this country.

The second event will be a 'Free Trade vs. Fair Trade' debate scheduled for April 14th at 7PM, at the Jeanne d'Arc Auditorium at the College of St. Catherine. Debating in favor of 'free trade' will be Art Rolnick from the Federal Reserve Board and the Executive Director of Citizens Trade Campaign, Larry Weiss.
