WOMAN OF STEEL IN LIBERIA
I was proud to be a part of the recent USW delegation to Liberia as a representative or our Union and Women of Steel (WOS). The delegation was led by USW Vice-President (Human Affairs) Fred Redmond and included John Alexander of Health, Safety and Environment; and Mike Zielinski of Strategic Campaigns. Also joining the delegation were Marc Bayard and Neha Misra of the AFL-CIO’s Solidarity Center. Fifty-two employees at Smead Manufacturing were sent home because there was no work. When less-senior employee’s received their paychecks, some found that they hadn’t earned enough to even cover their insurance benefit.
