United Steelworkers District 8 Endorses Creigh Deeds for Virginia Governor
Deeds ‘Strong Voice for Working Families’

For Immediate Release                                          October 23, 2009

Richmond, Virginia - The United Steelworkers (USW) today endorsed Democrat Creigh Deeds, a candidate for Governor in the November 3rd election.

"The Steelworkers are proud to endorse Senator Creigh Deeds for Governor. Senator Deeds has stood with us in many battles to create a better future for Virginia’s working families,” said Billy Thompson, USW District 8 director. “Creigh has a record of creating good jobs at good wages and working to improve education throughout Virginia.  We look forward to working with him as our next governor to jump-start the economy and keep Virginia moving forward.”

"The No. 1 job of the next governor will be to restore confidence in our economy and keep Virginia the best managed state in the country,” said Senator Deeds.  “I’m proud to have Virginia’s working families as a partner in this effort.”

USW District 8 represents workers in Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The United Steelworkers International union represents 850,000 workers in the U.S. and Canada employed in the industries of metals, rubber, chemicals, paper, oil refining and the service sector. For more information: www.usw.org/.
