	USW Organizing Coordinator Honored at Nevada AFL-CIO Convention

“The best way to build power within the Local Union is to increase membership,” said John Goins, from USW Local 711A.

Last month, at the Nevada State AFL-CIO Convention, John Goins, an Organizing Coordinator for United Steelworkers (USW) Local 711A was presented with the Mike O’Callaghan/United Way Teamwork Award. The conference was held at the Grand Sierra Hotel, Reno, NV from August 11-13.

Local 711A is comprised of taxi cab and limousine drivers who work for several different companies in and around Las Vegas.

For many years, John has assisted the Steelworkers’ in organizing local unions in Nevada. In 2005, the International was able to add nearly 300 new members, thanks in part to John Goins.
