On June 24, a team of United Steelworker (USW) women from Local 1000 participated on an all-day project at a Women's shelter as part of a United Way Day of Caring in Corning, NY.

great help to the women's shelter as well.”
Five teams of people went out into their community to do service projects. All of the teams received support from Local 1000 and Corning.
The WOS group assisted in a total cleaning of all rooms in the shelter. Nothing was left undone as even

appliances, dishes and utensils were included. They also made sure they sanitized the children’s play room and all the toys.
To top off their day of work, they weeded, improved two flower gardens in the front of the building and planted several new bushes and plants.

were overwhelmed with the generosity and efforts of all the volunteers.
This Women of Steel group established a great relationship with these women in our community and look forward to serving them again.

At the same time, several union brothers from the local participated in city projects for United Way Day of Caring. They worked very hard to improve the community in downtown Corning, where our union hall is located, at 100 Civic Center Plaza.
