According to the Buy- America Act, any publicly funded contract is required to produce 70% of its product domestically. The Pennsylvania Project or any future maglev project would be under this act’s manufacturing stipulations; therefore, large quantities of domestic steel are required.
Beam transportation is another factor in this project. The size of the beam required for maglev track construction is roughly 200 feet long. Transportation of this 120-ton beam is facilitated by steel’s lighter weight as opposed to concrete.
America’s place in the steel industry will be enhanced as a result of these two realities, upon the active initialization of maglev transportation construction.
