Common Questions

Where do I report address, email or fax number changes?

Any changes should be reported to your District/Regional Coordinator. Click here for contact information.

Why can’t we just sign form letters?

A handwritten note carries more weight and is more effective than a form letter.

Why do we sometimes have phone actions?

A bill might be voted on at the last minute, and a phone action may be all that we have time for.

Is email as good as regular mail?

Regular mail is easier to track and has more impact when it begins to pile up in congressional offices. Emails are fine, but members need to report them to their Local Coordinator so they receive credit for participating.

Why can’t we just circulate petitions?

Petitions aren’t viewied very strongly by Members of Congress. The best use of a petition is to education signers.

Why is it so important to track the levels of performance?

To see where the strong, active Local Unions are. To know that members are being educated. Our lobbyists need to know which legislators are hearing from constituents.

Who do I call if my Local needs to be trained?

Contact your District/Regional Rapid Response Coordinator. Click here for contact information.

Where do the Rapid Response Faxes and Emails come from?

The USW International Office.

How does Rapid Response benefit my Local Union?

It creates opportunities for more members to become activists, it educates the membership, it builds Solidarity and creates a total communication network for the Local Union.

Why sign a letter with a complete address?

Members of Congress will take a letter more seriously if it comes from someone who votes in their district. If an address is included, the Representative or Senator will frequently reply.
